365 by Lee Bamsey
365 is a collection of texts messages ranging over a year, the craft is quite original , the concept is extremely personal. The sound is extremely effective because its mysterious which sort of creeps the viewer out with this strange piece. The video always constantly changes and it goes through all of dates, it started and how long the the texts messages accumulated for hence the name 365, a whole year.
Gisele Kerozene
Gisele Kerozene starts off In the middle of a deserted modern city, three witch-like people are worshiping a strange sort of statue on a plinth. Everything Turns by Matt Hattler
Everything Turns is about Time, life and death. The concept is rather basic but installation piece is very effective as it makes the viewer think about life, death and more importantly time. The Craft appears to be stop motion, even though the installation piece was overly short, the maker obviously get his point across that time is running. A very effective part of the video is when the man turn to dust and as his dust falls a tombstone is revealed.

Chapter 1- Discuss both past and current artists and works
Video installation pieces such a Gisele Kerozene and Muto are similar in the fact that they both utilize stop motion this appears to be the only similarity between the two. Muto and Doll Face are also similar because they both to do with real life views, such as Muto is about Re-birth whereas Doll Face is about Struggling with identity. Struggling with identity is a problem a lot of people struggle with as they are always influenced by someone else and in terms of how they act and dress so the video installation reflects upon real life, which also bears resemblance with Muto as i pointed out earlier, it has an idea of re-birth which yet again reflects upon real life views. Differences between the pieces are the Craft which is obvious because Doll Face is a computer animation whereas Muto and Gisele Kerozene are stop motion furthermore the Concepts differentiate as i explained above about the Concepts, The Concept for Gisele Kerozene is not really apparent as it is about witches on motorised broom racing.
Chapter 2- The use of technology and techniques and styles
In video installations, how they was made differ because of the time they was made, for example Doll Face by Andy Huang was made recently and the technology to develop that differs than pieces such as Gisele Kerozene, Doll Face is a computer animation which such technology wouldn't have existed in 1989 when Gisele Kerozene was made furthermore was made with stop motion. Stop motion would have been good technology a the time of Gisele Kerozene, stop motion being difficult would have probably only been used for quite higher budget video installation pieces.
Chapter 3- Narrative and non-narrative structures
Some video installation have quite obvious narrative structures like Gisele Kerozene whereas some video installation have non-narrative structures like Girl Chewing Gum. Another stop motion video installation entitled Muto by Blu, doesn't really have a narrative structure compared to the other stop motion we have looked at called Gisele Kerozene. The two installation pieces are similar in the fact that they both utilize stop motion but this is where the apparent similarity ends as Gisele Kerozene doesn't have any apparent concept whereas Muto, visually points at the idea of rebirth as the stop motion has a cycle of life then death then life again.

Chapter 6- Audience and audience interpreatation
Any piece of art can be interpreted any way by anyone, this is because each person has there own individual thought therefore any person could see a piece of art as grotesque so to speak but another would see the piece of art as beauty. Furthermore people will always make there own interpretation with a piece of art but this would change the more they view it and also if there is a description provided with the art work and if there were any other person with them at the current time there interpretation would be shared so they would formulate an interpretation between them.
